Some Quick Facts about Europe and the High Points.
- There are currently 50 recognized states that go to make up modern day Europe
- There are 48 highpoints becuase France & Italy share Mont Blanc and Macedonia & Albania share Mount Korab (some may wish to debate this first point!)
- Total population, 733 million or about 11% of the world's population
- The European Union has 23 official languages
- Europe’s highest point is Elbrus (5642m) in Russia. (some may wish to debate this as well)
- Vatican City is the smallest state and has the lowest ‘highpoint’ (132m)
- The most northerly European high point is Halti in Finland
